The Highmark Second Level Grievance Hearing was conducted on February 1, 2005 to consider Dr. Berwick's appeal to reconsider the decision of Highmark's Western Region Credentials Committee to terminate her as a provider from the Premier Blue Shield and Keystone Health Plan West (KHPW) Networks. This hearing is a monumental milestone in the case for Evelyn S. Berwick M.D. because the Medical Review Committee which consisted of 15 members (13 of which were Medical Doctors) voted in favor of Dr. Berwick and ruled that the decision to terminate her as a provider should be overturned. Highmark's decision to terminate Dr. Berwick as a provider was entirely based on the actions taken and reasons offered to them by Allegheny General Hospital for the termination of Dr. Berwick's admission privileges. We encourage you to read the transcripts to follow the progression of reasoning that resulted in the Medical Review Committee's ruling. It is only then that one begins to see the wall of injustice start to crack. Note: The letter of ruling is the last page in the Transcript. |
